# Role DNA & scoring

Know what good looks like before the first CV. Your agent drafts the Role DNA, you approve it, then your agent scores every candidate against it.

## Role DNA

Each role carries a Role DNA — a written definition of a good candidate: a short summary, then Must, Nice and Exclude. Your agent writes it from the JD, the role’s criteria and the client’s rules; Friday stores it as a draft with your agent’s name on it. Friday runs no model itself.

## Ask for a draft

On a role with no Role DNA, the role page shows the command to copy. Run it in your agent with the role’s key, the one you see on screen:

```sh
/role-dna TRK-118
```

Commands are MCP prompts, so they appear in agents that list prompts. In any agent you can also ask in plain words: *Use Friday. Take my open role Senior Backend Engineer and draft its Role DNA for me to approve.* A new role from a JD works the same way: *Use Friday. Create the client Acme and a role for them from this job description: … Then draft the Role DNA for me to approve.*

## Approve it

The draft appears in the role’s Brief with **Approve** and **Edit**. Approval is always a person’s act — your agent can draft, never approve. Edit saves a new draft version. Once approved, the Brief names who wrote it and who approved it, with the version and the date. Approve, then ask your agent to score.

## Score candidates

Scoring runs against the approved Role DNA. Score everyone on a role, or one person on it by name:

```sh
/score TRK-118   # or one person: /score TRK-118 deepak-sharma
```

Each score is one to five stars in half steps, a summary of one to three sentences, and reasons for and against, tied to the Role DNA version it used. Your agent must hand back exactly that shape; Friday refuses anything else. Every score shows the skill and version, who it acted as and the date, and carries **Change score**, so you can overrule it any time.

A score goes out of date when the Role DNA gets a new version or the candidate’s record changes; the role page then shows `/score` again. **Match** is a separate column: Friday’s own count of the role’s criteria found on the profile. Stars and Match are never merged into one number.

## Where the skills live

Agents › Skills lists the two skills, `/role-dna` and `/score`, with their version and the output contract. Results always land in Friday with your name and your agent’s on them.
